Strong Survival

This collection of jewellery invades our sense of self, exploring, embellishing and caressing the contours of the body. The aim of this project is to question our perceptions of weeds to transform our visions of nature in the urban landscape. To reconsider the beauty that is all around us, hidden in plain sight and thus challenges our understanding of the city, the relationship to nature and concepts of value.

This project is inspired by plants that have successfully invaded the urban area. We usually call them ‘weeds’ for the simple reason that we do not want them. Hyerim focuses on their ability to survive and thrive in the city.

Buddleia and ivy were selected for their delicate persistence, vigorous growth and complex random arrangements, easily found in many places, providing a fascinating contrast to the urban landscape and industrial regularity.
