BIDRI ‘form-surface-soil’

Bidri is a 400-year-old artisanal craft of Deccan India, where gold and silver wire or sheets are inlaid into an alloy of zinc and copper and then oxidised using earth from the region. Originally this craft was reserved for more orthodox decorative objects such as boxes, vases and decanters. “BIDRI ‘form-surface-soil’” explores a new space in which the craft is repositioned into a luxury jewellery context.

This collection enhances traditional craft techniques by integrating design optimizing technology. This combination transposes the traditional ornate qualities of classic Bidri into jewellery by transforming the scale, materials and geometric forms of Mughal detailing in an intimate quarter. Such alluring Mughal architectural forms mark India’s rich cultural background and subtle infuse the collection.

The artifacts are imbued with the spirit of the artisans, whilst realized in the language of contemporary design and encompassed with the vision of the cognoscente and free-spirited.
