Food time-capsule
This project is about pleasure of waiting for slow food. The ‘food time-capsule’ is inspired by slow-food and the traditional Korean pottery ‘Onggi’.

Onggi containers create excellent conditions for fermentation and pickling. The lid is easily removed and used as a cover, echoing the traditional storage systems, and used to present food, whilst symbolizing the preservation of energy.

Soo’s designs reveal repeated structures in people’s cooking behaviour. They were formed through the consideration of layered patterns and hand size. Five colours are used: white, yellow, red, green and black, which are based on the colours of the Korean garnish culture for modernized Onggi. To re-design Onggi in a fresh and modern approach, Soo used a combination of clays, including paper-clay and traditional Onggi clay, for a lighter weight and improved ventilation. These were then combined with three dimensional patterns and textures sculpted by hand.
